It’s finally starting to feel like winter here in New York,
but we’re already sick of it! Luckily, many of us here at teddy have plans to
escape the city slush and take a winter vacation. I, for one, will be traveling
home to California next week, and thought I’d share some packing tips for
anyone else lucky enough to be venturing to warmer climates. The thought of California
usually inspires images of sun, sand, and perfect temperatures; but I always
like to remind myself that it is still winter on the West Coast. I definitely
intend to soak up some 75 degree sunshine, but it’s best to remember that
there’s a difference between dressing appropriately for mid-summer 75 degrees and
mid-winter 75 degrees. I’ll be sticking to classic prints and keeping my color palette
mostly dark with a splash of bright. It’s also always important to check the
weather before you go on vacation. From growing up in California, I know that
the temperature tends to drop drastically at night so I always carry a big
handbag to hold extra layers! Here are 9 pieces I’d love to take on vacation
with me:

We're getting ready for Spring here at teddy! This week Lucy and I
visited the Fame and Intermezzo trade shows to do a little Spring
buying. Of course, we stopped in to see some of our favorite lines like
Ark & Co and Many Belles Down, but this season we were also happy to
find some great new labels like Skies Are Blue and Ladakh.
After
scouring the show for the best possible finds, what we can promise for
you this Spring are racks filled with your favorite cuts, colors, and
prints. Brilliant colors will be all over the place this season, but
some of our favorites were the brightest reds, deep pinks, and cool
turquoise. Trending everywhere were animal, stripe, and micro prints, and we
were sure to grab the best! Be on the lookout for the cutest owl print
blouse - we can't wait for it to arrive! And, as always, we were on the
hunt for the most beautiful summer dresses. Whether you like to keep it
classic (little black), bohemian (flowy orange), or feminine (watercolor
floral), we've got the perfect dress for you. Even though winter seems
to be finally settling in here in New York, look on the bright side!
Spring merch will begin arriving in stores and online next month!

Here at teddy, when we sit around the design
table, we talk all kinds of fashion particulars: silhouettes, trends,
colors, moods, seasons, and on and on… The one look that keeps coming
up over and over again and that stands out among all of our discussions
is the maxi dress. Why you ask, ”the maxi?” Because, if done
correctly, it is simply the perfect dress - as perfect as any “perfect
little black dress” can be - if not better.
So, we set forth to create our idea of the perfect maxi dress. For us,
perfection lies with simplicity, and that is where this silhouette
began. A simple wrap that anyone can wear, the choice of fabric blend
was vital for this dress. Since there is a lot of it, it has to feel
like butter against the skin. We searched high and low and around the
globe to find a 92/8 rayon spandex blend which makes you feel like
you’ve just had a luscious body butter rub down (this can be our little
secret) when you slip it on.
Next, we added an ethereal bird/nature imagery print throughout the
dress. This, too, was carefully created by our in-house graphic
designers to add uniqueness, beauty and blissful imagination every time
you see this dress in your closet. Lastly, we tested the fit and length
over and over to make sure the dress adapted to any size and shape. We
know that the one misconception about the maxi dress is that if you are
on the shorter side, you can’t wear it. We want to tell you that this is so not true!Wearing
anything correctly requires two main ingredients – first, knowing how
to wear it and, second, having the panache to pull it off. Our complete
re-design of and attention to detail in our full length wrap dress has
made this easy for you, and you will show your confidence the minute you
put it on.
Whether on a hanger, a mannequin, or best, on you,
our dress embodies a timeless elegance as a true day-to-night piece.
During the day, wear it with pumps, sandals, cowboy boots or riding
boots. At night, switch it up with over-the-knee heeled boots or
sky high heels. Throw a cropped blazer over it and instantly give your
look a layered edge. And, don’t forget to accessorize, accessorize,
accessorize! When you wear this new dress, we know that you
will look and feel like a million bucks, but we won’t tell anyone you
didn’t have to pay that much to look so good!

Sloane Ranger wants to cover your otherwise boring luggage and laptop cases in a spray of colorful ponies, Scotty dogs, owls and whales…and we’re not complaining. These new kids on the block are quickly becoming one of our favorite new vendors. What can we say? We’re a sucker for details…
As the inside of each and every bag tells us, “Sloane Ranger, often shortened to Sloan or Sloanie, refers to a young, preppy, confident individual from the UK. The term originates from Sloane Square, an iconic locale in Chelsea. The Sloanes are the original prepsters. Never flashy, always confident.”
Whether you’re a self-proclaimed Blair Waldorf, kitschy cool, a collector of all things print + color, or you are just looking for a more feminine and whimsical version of your favorite Marc Jacobs bag, the Sloane Ranger line is chock full of options for you. We offer the duffle (hello gym carry-on!), tote (anyone say picnic?) and laptop sleeve (goodbye, bland briefcase…we won’t miss you) at shopteddy.com.

This Fall, everything old is new again! We've seen it popup on the streets of New York and in the recent shows of designers like Carolina Herrera and Antonio Marras. Right now at teddy, we're deeply inspired by sweet 1950's prints, flouncy full dresses, sexy secretary skirts, fitted bodices and the hot Greasers jackets that add the edge needed to level the saccharine.
Why the 1950's you ask? Drawing upon this era allows you to be bold yet kitschy and to celebrate your femininity with silhouettes that hug your curves in all the right places. And, even if you don't have many curves to speak of, these Fall styles worn by some of our favorite celebs will help you fake it!
Lake Bell stole Meryl Streep's man in It's Complicated and she's stolen our hearts in this gloriously ladylike ensemble. Try our Chiffon Tank, Black Tulip Skirt, and Teal Woven Wristlet for a similar effect.

As the manager of Teddy, California native, Kimie, is determined to spread fashion happiness! Kimie’s own fashion motto is all about versatility and staying comfortably chic at all times (currently attempting to work cut-off shorts into every outfit!). For daytime casual, Kimie pairs sandals and a white tee with her cut-offs. But for an easy transition to evening, she’ll grab a pair of killer high heels and a blazer to throw into the mix. As for accessorizing, Kimie almost always pairs chunky or colorful necklaces, unique shoes, or a sweet clutch with an outfit to top it off. For warmer days, Kimmie recommends wearing bandeau tops to add a fun pattern or splash of color under a sheer top, maxi dress, or simply rocking them solo at the beach! Like most of us, Kimie draws from her own style icons, such as Carine Roitfeld, and magazines such as Italian Vogue for fashion inspiration. FYI, Kimie’s favorite fashion blogs are Style Bubble, Sea of Shoes, and Thread Bared.
Bushwick, Brooklyn is Kimie’s NYC neighborhood but she’s originally from Fairfield, California. After graduating from NYU with a degree in Art History and Museum Studies, Kimie has spent most of her time working in retail and has been a Teddy manager since March of 2011. Eventually, when the enticing world of fashion lets her breathe for a second, Kimie hopes to go to graduate school for Business. Selfishly, we all hope that those plans are either far off in the future or that it won’t take her away from Teddy!
Always a conversationalist, Kimie’s favorite thing about working in retail is collaborating with her colleagues to create a fantastic shopping experience for all of our customers. Be sure to keep an eye out for Kimie at any one of the Teddy locations, as she loves to hear customer feedback and is just fun to talk to (but watch out her laugh is contagious!).
