Summer is the perfect time to explore a new city or finally take the chance to wander around and appreciate your own. While walking everywhere can be exhausting, we see no reason to sacrifice style for comfort; in our opinion, the two can exist together harmoniously. First of all, there are plenty of stylish and comfortable shoe options: printed sneakers, leather sandals, and wedges will keep you looking and feeling great. Make sure you invest in a good, supportive pair and if necessary, purchase some insoles. 

The next important thing to think about is weather. If it's going to be a scorching hot day, choose a lightweight, breathable fabric that will help keep you cool. In our opinion, it's much more comfortable to wear one piece instead of separates on the hottest days. It's also easier to pack a few dresses in your suitcase as opposed to a bunch of shorts, skirts, and shirts that you have to worry about mixing and matching. 

The Town Square Dress is a great buy because it looks fantastic on its own but also pairs well with different accessories (and colors). Also, it works with many types of shoes and is lightweight & breezy. If the weather is a bit cooler or the forecast calls for rain, be sure to bring a lightweight anorak or denim jacket with you (both pieces would look great layered on top of the Town Square Dress). 

• Pair it with a simple gold necklace, pearl stud earrings, thin belt (we love the Saved by the Bow Belt), and wedge sandals for a classy and elegant ensemble
• To mix things up and add a bit of edge to the dress, toss on a leather studded wrap bracelet, funky cocktail ring, oversize shades, and black Converse sneakers.
• For a night on the town, opt for some platform heels, a colorful statement necklace, and a leather clutch

The last and most important piece to worry about is a good bag. Choose something that is roomy but light and easy to carry. To save space, put your credit cards and cash in a card holder instead of a bulky wallet and eliminate any items that are not absolutely necessary (but be sure to remember an umbrella if the weather calls for rain)! Separate all of your most important/frequently used items so that you're never stuck digging through your bag in the middle of a crowd (nothing is worse than searching aimlessly for a bobby pin or hair tie).

This season we are absolutely obsessed with statement necklaces. If you're on the same page but can't afford a $500 piece from DANNIJO or Kate Spade, all hope is not lost! Read on and we'll tell you about some of our favorite pieces (all under $50) and how to style them so that you can be on-trend for Spring :)

1. This awesome tan necklace is chunky & bold without being too cumbersome. The two things that we love most about it are 1) the color goes with everything and 2) it can be adjusted from 12" to 15.5". Oh, and did we mention that it comes with an awesome pair of earrings and is only $40? Talk about a win-win!

2. How can you go wrong with a multi circle gold necklace? It goes with everything, makes any outfit look effortlessly chic, and looks much more expensive than it actually is ($36). Prepare to receive many compliments on this piece!

Yesterday was another fun day of Spring buying at the Javits Center in NYC. We love the above quote that was spotted while in the midst of frenzied (but calculated) purchasing. Fashion is all about risk taking - trying new things, deciding what you like and what makes you feel good, and figuring out how to try new trends while still remaining loyal to your own personal style. This Spring, we will definitely have many trendy pieces along with the classics that every lady needs. No matter what your style is (edgy, classic, girly, tomboy, etc.) we think that this year's trends will make a worthy addition to any wardrobe. Think of it as a bit of a fashion challenge - how can I take a piece that I wouldn't necessarily gravitate towards and seamlessly integrate it into my closet? Many people get stuck in style ruts because they buy the same thing over and over again and refuse to step out of their comfort zones. If your appearance is exciting and every changing (as opposed to boring and predictable) we bet your mood will experience a positive boost as well.

We've already told you how much we love mint, but here are three more trends that we've spotted during this year's Spring shopping spree. Neon is going to be huge this year - heels, bags, accessories, nail polish. It's an easy trend for anyone to embrace because it can be implemented in very subtle ways. If you love to wear a lot of neutrals, dip a toe into the pool of change by picking up a bright fuchsia clutch. If your style is edgy, why not try a pair of neon, studded heels or smoking flats? No matter what pieces you're looking for, we guarantee that you'll find a neon color option this Spring.

Leather is another trend that will be everywhere - wraparound bracelets, headbands, skirts, shorts, tops, jackets, etc. If your style is normally a bit girly and soft, go for pieces with leather accents. Try a chiffon skirt with a leather waistband or a pink suede wraparound watch. If you're no stranger to leather, go extra bold this season with a pair of leather pants or a flouncy leather skirt paired with a distressed, studded jean jacket. 

Statement sunglasses are always in style, but even more so this season. Don't be afraid to choose extremely oversize or brightly colored glasses (try a pair with a brightly tinted or mirrored lens for extra fun). We love this trend because it looks good on everyone - blondes, brunettes, and (especially) redheads. Whether you choose to rock it head-to-toe or in a more subtle way with nail polish and accessories, Teddy has some great items. Admittedly, February is not one of our favorite months here at Teddy. The days are cold, dreary, and it still gets dark way too early. Although it's a short month, it still somehow manages to feel never-ending. While it's easy to let the weather get you down, it's important to remain in high spirits. If the forecast won't cooperate and bring some brightness into your day, why not do it yourself? While an all-black ensemble seems to be a winter uniform for many people (especially here in NYC), why not break away from the grain and add some tropical colors into your daily color palette? If a neon yellow turtleneck isn't your thing, don't fret; you can easily add color without stepping completely out of your comfort zone. If your favorite cozy sweater is navy blue, toss on a chunky turquoise necklace to add a splash of color. If you reside in the corporate world of black dresses and blazers, add a bright purple handbag to the mix. With bright accessories, the possibilities are endless. 

Makeup is another simple way to add some color to your life. Keep your eyes and cheeks simple (one swipe of mascara and a bit of illuminator) but go for a bright, bold lip (we love OCC Lip Tars). If cheekbones are your thing, highlight them instead with a fun, pigmented blush (try NARS Mata Hari, a color that works with just about every complexion). If you ever need some inspiration, check out our Pinterest for makeup tips, tricks, and product recommendations. The picture of the girl above was found on Pinterest and is a great example of how a bright lip can make even crazy messy hair and a plain sweater look chic and fun.

While many trends from last season are still going strong, we saw several new and exciting patterns emerge on the runway for Spring 2013. As Spring clothing begins to arrive in stores and fashion mags gear up for their March issues, expect to see the following:

1. Luxe Leather - YSL, Ferragamo, Derek Lam, and Balmain all heavily utilized leather. Skirts, blazers, trenches, pants, motorcycle jackets, and dresses were seen all over the runway, often coupled with interesting cutouts and pleats. Jason Wu and Nina Ricci (among others) also used leather to create bondage-chic harnesses. Come Spring, you can definitely expect to see some (faux) leather pieces in Teddy & Lucia stores + online. If you check out our January 2013 trade show article, you'll see a gorgeous laser-cut black leather skirt along with a basic, fuller leather skirt. As always, we'll also have a few great leather jackets to choose from as well.

2. Bright Monochromatics - Gucci, Stella McCartney, Chanel, and Hermès were just a few designers who showcased this look. Whether you're wearing separates or a dress, it's definitely on-trend to wear the same bold color from head-to-toe. While this look may not be for everyone, we think it's a really great way to make yourself feel better on a dreary day. After all, nothing says happy better than an outfit comprised solely of fuchsia pink pieces! As always, expect to see lots of bright colors in stores (accessories + clothing).

3. Graphic Prints - Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Acne, and Michael Kors all embraced what we like to call 'the Hamburglar trend.' Somehow, these designers all managed to make prisoner stripes look incredibly polished and beautiful. We especially love that Michael Kors (along with Dolce & Gabbana) created dresses with horizontal stripes on top and vertical stripes on the bottom. Oftentimes, runway looks tend to be unwearable/unflattering for non-models, but MK actually uses stripes to flatter the female figure. Kudos to you, sir! Come Spring, expect to see many different striped/graphic pieces (in black & white + bold colors).

We love it because it's black & white and uses the dot pattern to create slimming lines & the illusion of a strapless dress. Many of our Plum dresses for Spring encompass the trends seen above: deep v-necks, black & white patterns, lace & leather detailing, cut-outs, and sheer materials.

Expect to see all of the dresses above in-stores come late February and early March. Accessorize them with gladiator heels, chunky jewelry, and bright eyes for a right-off-the-runway look! Although the weather in NYC has actually been pretty nice this week, it's still cold enough to make us dream of hopping on a plane and flying somewhere sunny and warm. If you're lucky enough to jet off to a tropical locale this season, we're jealous but still willing to help you out with your wardrobe. In our opinion, the two most important things to think about when packing for a tropical (winter) vacation are the following:

1. Which pieces are most versatile? If you're trying to pack light, it's important for you to bring items that you can wear in many different ways (so that you don't look like you've worn the same outfit the entire trip). The easiest (and most space-effective) way to change up an outfit is with awesome, eye-catching accessories. A wide belt or a chunky statement necklace will transform any piece of clothing into something special and different. Accessories are also a good way to transition an outfit from day to night. Crushable straw hats, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and scarves are all easy things to pack, so there's no excuse for scrimping on these pieces!

2. Which pieces will protect me from the sun? Although it can be nice to hang out on the beach all day and soak up some rays, protecting your eyes and skin are always of the utmost importance. Be sure to bring a few pairs of sunglasses, at least one oversize, floppy straw hat, and a swimsuit cover-up (or chic, cotton wrap dress). When you're heading down to the beach, grab your favorite large tote to stow all of your essentials (don't forget to include sunscreen and a bottle of water!).

Here at Teddy, we're attacking 2013 with full-force and looking ahead to Spring. This month, we attended the Fame & Intermezzo Trade Shows at the Javits Center in  NYC. From sparkly baubles to bright, neon clutches, there were tons of adorable things to choose from. Lucky for you guys, our buyers (owner Lucy and manager Kirsten) have great taste and always pick out items that are beautiful and on-trend. The image above gives you a good idea of the different pieces that you can expect to see in-stores and online come late February/early March (clockwise starting from the upper left corner):

1. Kirsten is holding two skirts that will easily transition you from winter to spring. The (faux) leather skirt on the left will look great with slouchy sweaters, flowy blouses, and even your favorite baseball tee. We love the way that Nicole Loher, aka the Style Student, rocks her faux leather skirt and strongly suggest consulting her blog archive for ideas on how to wear your own. The skirt on the right has a bold pattern and somehow manages to be both boho-chic and structured at the same time. When styled correctly, it could be appropriate for both work and play (and will also look great with or without tights).

2. Lucy & sales rep Yessica are clearly in bag heaven! This season you can expect to see lots of bright, structured totes, slouchy hobos, and small crossbody bags.

3. Lucy and Kirsten take a break from all of the shopping to pose in from of the Javits Center sign. As fun as it is to buy new things, all of the decision-making can be quite exhausting!

4. These bright envelope clutches are absolutely to die for. When the cold & rainy March weather is getting you down, grabbing one of these cheerful bags will certainly brighten your spirits! Even better, they're faux leather (and cruelty-free).

5. Sparkly cocktail rings are always a must. Even the simplest outfit becomes interesting if you paint your nails and slip on one of these glitzy, pretty baubles.

6. We will always be obsessed with tiny animal prints. Although it's hard to tell in this picture, the dresses that Lucy is holding are actually adorned with tiny little parrots! Whimsical, fun, and graphic - what more could you want for Spring?

1. Although it looks like sales rep Mona is wearing two pieces, she is actually wearing a dress! Combining hard and soft elements is always a big runway trend (think BCBG Max Azria S/S '13) and we love that this dress does it for you. 

2. The leather skirt in the middle is another favorite because it's a simple piece that is elevated to the next level with the addition of laser-cut outs. We think it would look super cool paired with some bright tights and ankle boots.

3. This black and gold dress has a bold pattern that will look great on even the smallest frame. Another thing we love about this dress is that it could be worn during every single season. Pair it with combat boots and a leather jacket in the fall, tights and ankle booties in the winter, a dark denim jacket and cool sneakers in the spring, and bare legs + strappy sandals in the summer. A piece this versatile is a must-have for every closet!

With the holiday party season steadily approaching, it's a good idea to start thinking about what you're going to wear to all of these shindigs. If you're planning on decking yourself out in something fancy and intricate (for example, a cocktail dress made entirely of sequins), it's important to keep the rest of your accessories minimal to avoid looking overstyled. On the other hand, if you prefer to keep it simple with a plain black dress, you should feel free to spice up the outfit with accessories that stand out. Thankfully for you, we have clutches (and jewelry!) to go with every type of outfit.

In our opinion, every lady should have at least 2-3 clutches in her collection. While it's sometimes nice to carry a roomy bag, it's wildly impractical to lug one to a crowded bar or party (especially if you plan on spending the night out on the dance floor). If you really stop to think about it, how many things do you actually need to bring with you? In our opinion, the essentials are:

• Lipstick (or gloss)
• Powder compact with a mirror (for quick touch-ups)
• Some cash
• Keys
• Cellphone

If you're bringing much more than that, perhaps you need to rethink your party game plan and downsize a bit. Clutches are perfect because the lack of space forces you to truly consider which items are necessities.

One great thing about our collection of clutches is that nearly all of them come with a removable strap. If you lose or forget things easily, you can simply attach the strap and wear the clutch crossbody style or over your shoulder. With a piece that's so versatile (and pretty!) how can you really go wrong? No matter what your style, we're sure we have something you'll fall in love with. As you can see below, three of our lovely models have styled different clutches with each of their oufits in order to suit their personal taste & needs:

(From left to right) Tatsiana is ready for a night out with girlfriends. The theme of her outfit is definitely texture: (faux) leather top, lace skirt, beaded cuff, and a (faux) shiny black clutch. By mostly sticking with one color, Tatsiana is able to play with different materials while still looking cohesive, polished, and effortlessly edgy. Our second model, Laramie, is styled for a classy, sophisticated event (perhaps a company party). Since her dress is a simple, gorgeous black maxi, she opted for this tan, (faux) snakeskin clutch to add a contrasting color + texture to her ensemble. Our third model, Arianna, could seriously wear this simple, comfortable outfit anywhere: to run errands, meet friends for lunch, or host a casual holiday get-together. We love the effect that this mustard, wooden-handle clutch has on her outfit. It adds a pop of color + an element of fun (her red lipstick also helps!)

If you've been paying attention to trends, I'm sure  you're familiar with the rampant obsession over oxblood, the hottest color for Fall. From makeup, to shoes, to outerwear, oxblood is everywhere. On first glance, it may seem like a difficult color to wear, but it actually looks great (in some form or another) on every single person. If you have fair skin and red hair, try out an oxblood lip - it will make your skin look flawless and your eyes will pop. If you have dark hair, go crazy with deep, rich colors and turn yourself into a vicious vixen. Grab an oxblood leather jacket, black skinny jeans, spiked heels, and a python clutch - you'll look fierce and flawless all night long. If you have blonde hair, try an oxblood dress paired with a sweep of oxblood blush across your cheekbones. The vibrant color will add contrast to your face and bring out features that may often blend in with your hair. No matter what your skin and hair coloring may be, we promise you will look great with oxblood nail polish. One little tip: make sure to file your nails short so that your deep, dark fingers don't look like talons!

If you ladies are as obsessed as we are with NYFW, you probably know that peplums have been all over the place for the past 2-3 runway seasons. From Calvin Klein to Jason Wu to Prada, everyone has been a little bit obsessed with the architectural, amazing peplum shape. In our opinion, it's a style that deserves the hype (unlike harem pants) because it is seriously flattering for every body type. If you have a slender, boyish figure, the peplum will break up your body and add some definition to your waist (plus give the illusion of hips). If you're on the heavier side, the peplum will show off the smallest part of your body and hide any excess bulk in the tummy area. Even if you already have the perfect hourglass figure, the peplum will only accentuate your best assets. If you ask us, we think that every single woman out there should be rockin' the peplum trend.

As you can see above, the style can be edgy, sweet, or classic. Our model Tatsiana is pictured on the left wearing a peplum dress that is appropriate work attire but also awesome for grabbing drinks with the girls after your 9-5. The sleek peplum tops in black and crimson are pieces that also transition beautifully from day to night. If you're working during the day, throw on a blazer, put your hair in a bun, and slip into your favorite pencil skirt. For a night out, toss on coated jeans, studded heels, and switch the blazer for a sick leather jacket. The navy lace top is a bit more ladylike and demure, but it can certainly be edged out with the addition of some leather pieces. The look that Tatsiana is wearing on the right is definitely edgy and cool. This leather and oxblood peplum top is a piece that we would suggest for someone with a bolder aesthetic (if you own over-the-knee boots like the ones pictured above, this top is a piece that you NEED in your wardrobe).

As we mentioned before, any body type can pull off this trend. If you just open any fashion magazine, you'll be sure to see several different celebs wearing peplum pieces. Here at Teddy, we're constantly impressed by what our sales associates accomplish in and out of the stores. As some of you may know, Corinne Callen (who works at our Manhattan store) is also an insanely talented musician who is a part of three groups: Corinne Callen solo, American Dream, and Le Mood. How she works full-time AND takes part in three different projects, we'll never know! 

To give a little bit of background, "I was born and raised in Winter Haven, FL, but my parents were originally from NYC, so we traveled up here quite a bit growing up. My grandmother was actually a big band singer from the New York area, and she used to open for Tony Bennett on occasion. I started singing in choir and musical theater when I was young, and then eventually picked up the classical guitar in high school. My first band was an all girls rock band called The Powder Kegs. I moved to Tallahassee, FL in the fall of 2000, and started writing and performing my solo music there which I eventually took with me when I moved to NYC in late 2004. I had my start in the New York scene playing Sidewalk Cafe, CB's Gallery and Sine Bar. I began collaborating with my cousin Marco in Le Mood in early 2006 which led to multiple tours and recording sessions, television song placements, etc. I started playing live with new solo music and my band in 2008 mostly in Brooklyn to start, and I self released my record "Blow the Cover" in late 2010. American Dream is my latest project co-written with Tommy USA. We are working on taking this project into the studio soon, but so far have recorded demos of our material and have begun performing our songs live."

Whether you’re headed outside the city for some cool country air, or cashing in that summer Friday to spend a long weekend in another metropolis, we promise the following packing list will inspire your inner-Kerouac to emerge.

First of all, raggedy old sweatpants are out! For the ultimate combination of comfort and class, toss on the Read Between The Lines Maxi while cruising the open road. Like some of our favorite pieces this season, it has a subtle back cut out so you will feel fabulous and feminine (and super comfy!)

Weekend trips often necessitate the need for the perfect day to night outfit. Pair them with sandals and a cross-body bag while sightseeing during the day, then toss on wedges and a clutch while hitting the town at night.

Lately, the girls at Teddy have been obsessed with the simplicity of a good pair of stud earrings. While it's sometimes nice to get dressed up and throw on a pair of dangly earrings, studs are much more practical for everyday wear. Our favorite thing about them is that they're small enough to be work appropriate but can still be whimsical and fun. From far away, no one will be able to tell that your ears are actually adorned with a tiny tropical drink or a friendly little owl. To give you some examples of how to rock this type of earring, we've put together some looks for different occasions:

This look would be something that you could easily wear to the office (toss on a blazer to combat the air conditioning and you're good to go). Accessories for this look are minimal but fun.

Another great thing about studs is that they're so small that you can wear a few other accessories without looking too busy. While this look would be overwhelming with a pair of chandelier earrings, it looks just right with a simple pair of studs.

This third look would be cute to wear out on a daytime date. We recently had a mom at our Park Slope Teddy location confide that she loves beautiful earrings but is afraid to wear them because her baby has come close to yanking them right out of her ears. These earrings are perfect because they're eye-catching and classy but still baby friendly.
